Resurrected Skin

There was this one time that Christ
appeared in the midst of his friends
(through the walls, perhaps), and he showed
Thomas the still extant holes
in his hands and his feet and his side
(where the soldier had stuck him, remember?).
Thomas believed.

That was some appearing trick,
to apparate in their midst.
A similar stunt would win
a TV magician a daytime Emmy,
or faint applause from a studio audience.

With such a prestigious feat,
one would think he should have patched
at least the hole in his side.
But I am told that this is not
the way that redemption works.
So I will always bear my marks like a resurrected skin;
hoping on the day when Christ
is found within.
